Hi, thank you for connecting with us. My name is Jason Scheler and I have the honor to serve with Hope on the Beach Church to the community of South Walton and beyond. The Lord brought me here in 2009 from a successful church plant in Michigan to restart Hope as their first full-time Pastor. I have a passion to love and connect people to Jesus. I define success by you being closer to Jesus and you helping others to connect to Jesus. All heaven rejoices when this is happening. My favorite bible verse is Luke 5:32 "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance." I am blessed to be married to Kristie and to share in life together. We have three children. Kayla - married to Bart with 2 little boys in Phoenix, AZ. Jacob -read more about him on the next bio, Jenna- a navy nurse. I enjoy family, friends, cooking, fishing, biking, traveling, and the Beach. I hope this introduction will be a starting point for us to grow together in Christ. I would appreciate the opportunity to know you more, so please send an email, or let's connect over coffee.
Hello! I am Jacob Scheler and I have the privilege to serve as the Vicar here at Hope on the Beach Church. If you are unfamiliar with what a Vicar is, it is a term used for Student Pastor. I am currently in the Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) Program at Concordia Seminary in Saint Louis, Missouri. I take my classes online while working full time at Hope on the Beach; except for two weeks which I spend on campus at the Seminary in St. Louis for intensive courses in the winter and summer. It has been such a blessing to be on staff at Hope and connect people to Jesus. Some of the ministry focuses I serve in are Young Adult, Worship Tech and Production, Outreach, Marketing, and Youth!
I completed my undergrad at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL with a B.S. in Biology and double minor in Marine Biology and Business. After a year of looking at graduate programs and trying to discern God’s call on my life; I accepted God’s call into His ministry here at Hope on the Beach Church. I started the SMP program in the Spring of 2019 and will finish the four-year program in the summer of 2023. I enjoy the opportunities to coordinate our outreach events like Egg Drop Palooza and Christmas at the Beach. God has blessed Hope with a growing group of young adults who have been attending and serving at Hope that I get to put on events and host bible studies with.
I was born in Boca Raton, FL so I get to claim I am a Florida native and with that title salt water runs through my veins. I love spending my free time fishing, hanging out on the beach, paddle boarding, and just about anything else that includes a body of water. Some of my other interests are spending time with my family, cooking, working out at the gym, playing soccer, and getting creative and building new things.
Blessed to be born in a Christian home, baptized at 9 days, and attended St. John Lutheran School from Kindergarten – 12th Grade graduation. When I was in 2nd grade I felt called to be a Lutheran School Teacher. I was blessed to study Elementary Education at Concordia College, Seward, Nebraska upon graduating from high school. I was blessed to meet Jason in college and we were married in 1991. We have been blessed with 3 children that by the grace of God love Him and serve Him as adults. Kayla is married to Bart and they have blessed us with 2 grandsons. They live in Phoenix, Arizona. Jacob lives in Freeport and studying to be a pastor and serves at Hope. Jenna is an officer in the Navy and serves as a nurse in Portsmouth, Virginia. I loved teaching Preschool – 1st Grade for many years, as well as homeschooling our children for 1 year. When Jason answered the call to be a pastor and started seminary, we felt it was important for me to step out of the classroom and take on a different role in our home. I love working in the church and helping to plant 2 churches. I enjoy swimming, boating, bicycling, and time with family and friends and the beach.
Favorite Bible Verse: Psalm 46:10a
I am excited to be on the Hope on the Beach team, where it really is a simple way to connect to Jesus! I feel blessed to be a part of a community oriented church where my husband and I can serve and grow together. When I confirmed my faith in Christ at age 20, I was in a spiritual battle of my life. I’d been married to my husband, Steve, for a couple of years and now he thought I had gone off the deep end with “this whole Jesus thing”. I am blessed to confirm that Jesus, in all his grace revealed himself to Steve, and he is a believer. We will celebrate 39 years of marriage this summer! We raised two daughters, Kendra and Elyse who were student athletes through college and are now married and living in Texas and Massachusetts respectively. We relish time that we spend with them when the opportunity arises.
For over 30 years I served at, and attended various inter-denominational churches. I taught Jr High youth group, children’s church in the outreach center, and in world-wide and national Bible Study ministries such as Community Bible Study and Women of the Word. My heart, and much of my experience is in Women’s Ministry, though, where I have written devotionals, Bible Studies and poetry for use in various applications and discipleship programs. I’ve served in positions of Coordinator of Women’s Bible Study, Women’s Ministry Coach and currently serve as Women’s Mentor through the Alliance at Christian Leader’s Institute. From very early on in my daily walk with Christ, I learned the value of staying in the Word, in fellowship and prayer, and find it my life’s calling to encourage others to do the same.
Hi Friends! My name is Bekah Phifer and I just graduated from Concordia University in Austin, TX studying to become a DCE. Now, I am an intern at Hope on the Beach to be a Director of Christian Education (DCE) and a Worship Leader. If you don’t know what a DCE is, it’s a called minister of the Gospel and teacher of the Faith who works not only with youth, but families, children, the congregation, and people, supporting, loving, and meeting people where they are at to in the community to connect them to Jesus. I am the oldest in my family born in Austin, TX, with three other siblings, Mary (19), Austin (17), and Tristan (7). My parents live in Michigan, where my dad is a Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Paw Paw, MI and my mom teaches elementary students. I have moved around a lot growing up because of my dad’s job, but I have loved being able to spread the Gospel in many different places! For fun, I love to be at the beach, sing and play music, anything outdoorsy, and I love trying almost any kind of food. I really like playing soccer and I have a big dream to be a surfer one day.
